Zoo Fun!
This week has been fun! We went on a field trip to the zoo! It was cold & the animals were active :-)
We drew a map of what our own zoo map would look like.
We read about all the different animal teeth and wrote about which teeth we would like best.
We also read a book about all different animal body parts and how it makes each animal special. We wrote about our favorite animal characteristics and drew what it would look like. We all decided it would be RIDICULOUS and we like ourselves just the way we are!
I included our anchor chart we made.
I also included our anchor chart for measurement. I did correct the misspelling on the chart in class!
Lastly, I included a picture of some of my students art work. They find these drawings in art class & I am so impressed with them. These are only a sampling-there were many more just as good!

Little Artists
Our school held a Gala a couple of months ago to help raise money fort the school. One of the big items is time
with a teacher. This year my team decided to auction off a painting party. The two highest bidders one time to paint with their teacher. We made them aprons and painted away! It was so much fun!!
This is the invite I made for my to artists.
This is a picture of them painting away! I love how thier pictures turned out- they are both very creative!!
Insects!
This week we learned all about insects. The class really seemed to enjoy this theme. I must admit while I don't care for insects myself, I love this theme too!
This is a great writing piece that students have to pick an insect and then write clues about it. They love writing the clues and really get into this!
This is about people who have jobs about insects (insect workers).
This is another writing piece we did about insects. I really like this one because they have to explain why they choose the insect they choose.
This is probably one of the best stations we had! They were given a sheet that had different insect body parts to choose from. They then had to create their own bug, label it, and create a name for it!
My new bulletin board!
I LOVE my new bulletin board my room moms did for me!! I appreciate the creativity these ladies have and share with me!
I was also admiring my rose bush I received from a student and planted a couple of years ago. I can not believe that it is still growing and has more roses on it this year than ever before!!
Math this week...Time
This week in math we worked on time kindergarten style! We talked about things that happen in the day or night, what takes more time or less time to do, sequence events in the correct order they occur, and then reviewed 3D shapes and subtraction bowling!

Building a nest!
A couple of weeks ago we studied eggs. We talked about what hatches from eggs, different kinds of eggs, and some other neat stuff. We also discussed what it takes to build a nest. I had the students then collect things from outside that they thought would help them to build a nest and then they had to build it. They had a great time and learned that it was a lot harder to build a nest than they originally thought.
Working on self-control
I had seen this lesson this past summer and couldn't wait to try it out. I thought that it might be too hard for them in the beginning of the year. They did great with it this past week. I really am glad I waited. I think it was powerful and I hope it works!!
I blew bubbles and told them to not pop them. It was really hard for them, we talked about it and then I blew bubbles again and again, giving directions each time. I finally let them pop the bubbles in the end. They really seemed to like it!
